Alana Plaus

SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Alana Plaus is an experienced public policy, public affairs and strategic communications consultant. She is skilled at creating innovative solutions to complex problems while building consensus with key stakeholders and diverse communities. Her public policy and communications skills are rooted in over 10 years of experience working on behalf of elected officials, higher-education institutions, non-profit organizations and state governments.

Alana helps clients navigate complex challenges by centralizing inclusive community engagement, transparent communications and thoughtful strategy. Her cross-sector work with clients in education, water reclamation, land use and affordable housing, legislation and government allows her to provide a breadth of knowledge that elevates her projects and creates critical connections.

Prior to joining GBSM, Alana served as Colorado Governor Jared Polis’ policy advisor on workforce and education. In this role, she managed all facets of the governor’s communications, issues and crisis management, policy development, legislative positions and budget development relating to education and workforce development. This included advising the governor on the challenging and dynamic situation of how educational institutions responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. Alana is an experienced navigator of state government and legislative processes and provides clients with thoughtful solutions to multifaceted political and regulatory dynamics.

Alana has a breadth of experience planning and managing recurring and specialized programs and campaigns with prominent and influential business, civic and political leaders. The bulk of this experience comes from her role as deputy director of the Colorado Forum, a highly influential, non-partisan organization committed to helping businesses and communities understand, build and execute transformative plans to address intractable societal challenges.

Alana graduated from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs with a master’s degree in public administration. She holds a B.A. in Spanish from Bates College. Alana was born and raised in Denver and spends her free time hiking, skiing, traveling and doing yoga with her partner.
