Sharon Sherman was a newspaper reporter, state agency public information officer and state cabinet official. She co-created and ran one of the region’s largest and most respected public relations firms. Sharon has deep experience in public relations, strategic planning, media relations, public affairs and non-profit management.
Sharon was founding director of the U S WEST Center for Business Success at Metropolitan State College of Denver, and was executive director of a non-profit organization, Girls Count. She was a creator, and managing partner, of Schenkein/Sherman Public Relations, which became one of the Rocky Mountain region’s top agencies, winning many local and national awards. In that role, she managed public relations and marketing communications programs for national and state clients. Her former experience also includes a decade as one of the Denver Post’s chief political reporters, and a position in former Governor Richard Lamm’s cabinet, managing the state personnel system.
Sharon also has a long career as a volunteer for non-profit and civic organizations. She served on the board of Metro Volunteers, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Civic Ventures Board of the Downtown Denver Partnership. She is a former president of the board of trustees of the Women’s Foundation of Colorado, the Women’s Forum of Colorado and the Colorado Literacy Assistance Center and a former vice-president of the board of Girl Scouts-Mile Hi Council. She has held executive committee positions or committee chair positions on several other boards.
Sharon has a BS in journalism from Iowa State University and is an accredited (APR) member of the Public Relations Society of America. She has taught and trained for many years in public relations and in non-profit management and branding, including teaching assignments in Regis University’s Master’s Non-profit Management program.
